Gold rate by city.

There is one bullion market, and every city quotes from it — what changes between towns is the premium, the making charge and the local association's posted board, not the metal.

The trade in Indore.

Indore's Rajwada sarafa is one of central India's largest bullion markets — a wholesale hub as much as a retail one, so its shops quote closer to the bullion rate and make their margin on volume and making charges. Because the city supplies smaller Malwa towns, the Indore board is the reference a lot of jewellers in Dewas, Ujjain and Dhar price against.

Indore's shops trade out of Sarafa Bazaar, Rajwada. Because they all price off the same bullion board shown above, the honest way to compare two quotes is to ask each shop for the metal rate, the making charge and the wastage as three separate numbers.

How the gold rate in Indore is actually set.

India imports most of its gold, so the rate starts abroad: the international price in dollars per troy ounce, converted at the day's rupee rate, plus import duty and the bullion market's own premium. That is the number on this page, and it moves all day.

From there each shop builds its counter price. A 22K ornament is quoted at the 22K metal rate, then making charges are added — either a percentage of the metal value or a fixed amount per gram — along with any wastage, the value of stones, hallmarking, and 3% GST on the total. Two shops quoting different totals on the same day are almost always differing on making, not on metal.

What to ask for. A proper tax invoice shows the metal rate, the net weight, making charges, stone value and GST as separate lines, with the BIS hallmark and HUID for every hallmarked piece. If a bill shows one lump sum, ask for the breakup — you are entitled to it.

Questions about the gold rate in Indore.

What is the gold rate today in Indore?

The live 24K and 22K gold rates in Indore are shown at the top of this page in rupees per gram and per 10 grams, and they refresh every minute while the bullion market is open. The figure is the MCX-linked bullion rate before GST and before any making charges your jeweller adds.

What is the difference between the 22K and 24K gold rate?

24K is pure gold — 999 fineness — and is what coins, bars and bullion are priced at. 22K is 916 fineness: 91.6% gold mixed with other metals so it is hard enough to make ornaments from, which is why almost all Indian jewellery is 22K. The 22K rate therefore works out to roughly 91.6% of the 24K rate.

Why is the price my jeweller quotes higher than this rate?

The rate on this page is the metal rate only. A finished ornament also carries making charges (the karigar's labour, usually 8–25% or a fixed amount per gram), any wastage the shop charges, the value of stones set into the piece, and 3% GST on the total. Hallmarking adds a small per-piece fee. Ask for the breakup — a proper tax invoice shows metal, making, stones and GST as separate lines.

Is GST included in the gold rate shown here?

No. This is the pre-tax bullion rate. Gold jewellery attracts 3% GST on the invoice value, and making charges are also taxed at 5% when billed separately. A ₹1,00,000 ornament bill therefore comes to about ₹1,03,000 before any making-charge tax.

Does the gold rate change during the day?

Yes. The international gold price and the rupee–dollar rate both move continuously, so the bullion rate changes through the trading session. Most Indian jewellers post one morning rate and revise it if the market moves sharply; wholesale and bullion dealers quote live. The board on this page follows the live market.

Why do different jewellers quote slightly different rates on the same day?

They all start from the same bullion market, but each shop adds its own premium to cover buying cost, transport, insurance and margin, and local associations in some cities publish a common board that members follow. The underlying metal rate is national; the counter rate is the shop's own.

What rate will I get if I sell my old gold?

Selling is priced off the fine-gold (24K) rate, adjusted for the actual purity of your ornaments after testing — a 22K chain is paid at about 91.6% of the fine rate, less any deduction the buyer applies for soldering and refining loss. Making charges paid originally are never recovered. Ask for the purity test to be done in front of you.

How is the hallmark on my jewellery related to the rate?

A BIS hallmark with its six-character HUID certifies the purity you are paying for — 916 for 22K, 750 for 18K. It does not change the rate, but it is what lets you hold the jeweller to the purity the bill claims, and it makes resale simpler because the buyer does not have to re-test.
